Hyperpigmentation is a common skin condition that leads to uneven skin tone. It occurs when melanocytes, the pigment-producing cells of the skin, are dysregulated and produce excess melanin. The result is the formation of different types of dark spots, such as age spots, sun spots, melasma, etc.
The left picture reveals darker patches on the forehead, along with rosacea and uneven skin tone across the cheeks. The face looks unhealthy, swollen and inflamed.
The treatment of hyperpigmentation of the skin enhanced the optimal functioning of Carla’s melanocytic cells, improving overall pigmentation. It also strengthened her skin, which allowed her to enjoy the sun responsibly by creating her own sun protection strategy.
Trying to achieve results too quickly with chemical peels, laser or pulsed light treatments makes the skin more sensitive to UV rays, leading to recurrent hyperpigmentation.
The ideal LE PURE routine for Carla included a targeted treatment of the areas with hyperpigmentation and rosacea. Not only does this routine correct skin problems, but it is also a powerful antiaging treatment.
The ideal face cleanser for hyperpigmentation is crucial to achieve long-lasting results. Carla initially used a cleanser for sensitive skin. However, most cleansing products contain synthetic detergents (syndets) that harm the skin’s protective layer.
Additionally, Carla’s fast rubbing during cleansing worsened her hyperpigmentation and inflammation. Thus, it’s vital to use gentle, precise movements, as demonstrated in the Wave Cleansing Ritual.
The LE PURE routine for hyperpigmentation features two plant-based cleansers – Alpha Tonic and Detox Deluxe. These products cleanse and purify without harming the skin’s microbiome and its protective barrier. In contrast, cleansers with synthetic or chemically modified ingredients leave residues on the skin that can contribute to dark spots during sun exposure.
The morning routine for hyperpigmentation can be simpler than at night.
1- Use a cotton pad moistened with filtered water and Alpha Tonic to gently cleanse the face.
2- Apply Velvet Hydration to calm, hydrate, and firm the skin. It is rich in vitamin C and natural acids, which brightens the skin and boosts collagen production. Then, massage 1-2 pumps of Midnight Rejuvenation into the damp skin.
3- For restructuring lipids, apply Midnight Rejuvenation oil or the Way To Radiance cream. The oil is advised for skin with redness and inflammation.
4- Depending on the sun’s intensity, use either the makeup cream Perfecting Illumination or the biological sunscreen balm Zen Solaire to protect the skin against UV radiation.
The night routine for dark spots of the skin includes thorough cleansing, profound nourishing, and correcting treatments.
1- Spray Nectar Immortel on half the face, then cleanse with a cotton pad moistened with filtered water and Alpha Tonic, following the Wave Cleansing Ritual.
If you wear heavy makeup, add 1-2 pumps of Detox Deluxe or Midnight Rejuvenation to the moistened cotton pad.
2- After cleansing, spray Nectar Immortel on the entire face and massage 1-2 pumps of Midnight Rejuvenation into the damp skin.
The combination of these two products enriches the skin with potent plant nutrients that effectively treat and prevent dark spots on the skin.
3- Three times a week before bed, apply a thin layer of the Instant Liberation masque like a cream to act overnight. For pimples, use nightly on the affected areas.
This masque contains medicinal clays and whole-plant extracts, which stimulate cell renewal and purification, brightening pigmentation spots over time.
4- Twice a week, use True Revelation for gentle exfoliation and to nourish melanocytic cells with natural retinol. If your skin is red and inflamed, avoid exfoliation at first and use the Instant Liberation masque more frequently.
Optimal sun protection is vital in treating hyperpigmentation.
Carla’s initial use of a chemical SPF 50 sunscreen didn’t prevent her hyperpigmentation.
In 2022, she switched to Zen Solaire, the first natural sunscreen without waxes and chemically modified fats.
After the summer, Carla’s pigmentation improvements were significant. She had boosted her skin’s natural defenses by combining gradual sunbathing for a few minutes per day with photoprotective plant nutrients from Zen Solaire.
Hyperpigmentation and rosacea also have internal causes that need to be addressed. Under medical supervision, Carla embarked on an integrative approach to treat her hyperpigmentation.
These following recommendations are based on a personalized treatment and are not intended to be general medical advice.
Carla had been on a high-dose contraceptive pill for two decades, causing significant liver strain. She also suffered from low vitamin D and gut health issues, often needing medication for inflammation and throat infections.
In February 2022, she stopped taking contraceptive pills under her gynecologist’s guidance.
She took herbal supplements to boost liver function and addressed her vitamin D deficiency through supplementation and more sun exposure. Her gut health improved after a detailed analysis and treatment of her intestinal flora, shifting towards plant-based remedies for inflammation and infections.
Originally, Carla’s diet was heavy in bread, grains and pasta, along with animal products, fruits and vegetables from industrial farming. Her consumption of large farmed fish and cow’s milk products, along with frequent intake of processed foods and sugary coffee, impacted her health.
Now, Carla follows an anti-inflammatory diet, significantly reducing grains and starches. She opts for organic produce, free-range eggs, and small wild fish, limiting dairy to small amounts of sheep or goat products. She prepares most meals at home and has cut down her coffee intake to 1-2 cups daily.
Lifestyle factors also played a role in Carla’s health issues.
She smoked regularly and drank alcohol socially. Her job was stressful and her physical activity during the week was limited. Teeth grinding, excessive caffeine, and screen time before bedtime resulted in only 6 to 7 hours of poor sleep quality.
To improve these negative lifestyle factors, Carla stopped smoking and reduced her alcohol intake. She managed her stress, started exercising regularly, used a night guard for bruxism, and reduced her caffeine intake to help her sleep.
She also eliminated screen time before bed and minimized sleep-disrupting electromagnetic fields produced by her phone next to the bed. Carla started wearing prescription glasses, which improved her vision and eliminated the migraines she used to get after working all day at the computer. She now enjoys 7 to 8 hours of restful sleep and wakes up energized and refreshed.
Carla also benefited from acupuncture, osteopathy, and psychotherapy sessions, which reduced stress and fostered emotional growth.
This integrative treatment clearly shows the importance of addressing both external and internal factors to improve skin pigmentation and overall health.
