Treatment for Neurodermatitis
Neurodermatitis, also called Lichen simplex chronicus, is a skin disorder that is characterized by itchy skin and chronic desquamation. The skin in the affected areas becomes rough and leathery. Unlike atopic dermatitis (eczema), which can be widespread, neurodermatitis is usually confined to one or two patches of skin.
The itchy spots generally appear on areas of the body such as the neck, scalp, wrists, forearms, legs, and the groin area. They rarely appear on the face, but they can appear on the eyelids. Continued scratching can irritate nerve endings in the skin, intensifying both itching and scratching.
This skin alteration is often related to a problem with the nervous system. We recommend exploring possible causes and aggravating factors with a doctor specializing in integrative medicine.
