The skin of the lips is very thin as it has only three to five cellular layers, as compared to the typical facial skin that can have up to 16 layers. The lips do not contain sweat glands and therefore lack the protective layer of sweat and skin oils that maintain the skin smooth, regulate the temperature and inhibit pathogens. Due to these reasons, lips are more prone to dry out and become chapped.

On the other hand the skin of the lips renews four times faster than the rest of the skin. Therefore, if we apply the correct product, we can repair the lips very rapidly. Lips have a tendency to decrease in size over time (up to 1 mm every 5 years). Consequently it is crucial to take care of the lips to stop this aging process and to preserve the dimensions of the lips.

We recommend applying only bioavailable ingredients on the lips (ingredients that the human body recognises and you could actually eat). It is important to avoid the application of synthetic fats, petroleum derivatives, hydrogenated fats and waxes (beeswax, lanolin, etc.). These  substances create a layer on top of the lips that creates the sensation of nutrition, but does not nourish the delicate lip skin. A vicious cycle starts by applying this artificial layer to the constantly dry lips.

The ideal products to nourish and protect the lips are the Smooth Addiction balm and the Eye Euphoria oil. Depending on the climate and other factors we recommend the daily application of one of these products and in some cases multiple applications throughout the day will be beneficial. Due to the fast renovation of the skin of the lips, we do not recommend to use peelings on these sensitive areas. If you wear lipstick, we recommend applying previously Smooth Addiction to nourish and protect the lips.

There are many other factors, external and internal, that influence the health of our lips:

EXTERNAL FACTORS

Environmental influences such as extreme temperatures (cold as well as heat) and also abrupt temperature changes as we are experiencing when we change from one season to the next.

Excessive sun exposure, strong wind and high humidity can also negatively affect the skin of the lips and cause dryness and chapped lips.

INTERNAL FACTORS

Fever, infections, allergies, bad digestion, tobacco and alcohol consumption, teeth and gum problems can contribute or cause dry and chapped lips.

Illnesses such as cold, catarrh and the flu can also have a negative impact on our lips. This also applies to certain medications. A lack of good sleep and anxiety (biting the skin of the lips) can lead to dry and chapped lips. An unbalanced hormonal system and problems with the liver are also aggravating factors in case of lip problems.

NUTRITION

A deficiency of certain vitamins such as vitamin D, the A vitamins and the group B vitamins (especially riboflavin) can have a negative effect on the ideal hydration of our skin and our lips.

The balance of the essential fatty acids Omega 3, 6, 7 and 9 is also extremely important for the skin and the lips. A balanced amount of essential fatty acids helps children, adolescents and adults to prevent these deficiencies, along with the risk of chronic illness and dermatological problems, which can become visible on the skin and lips.

VITAMIN D

Vitamin D deficiency is very common in today’s world. People hardly expose themselves to the sun, as they spend most of their time indoors. When going outdoors an increasing number of people apply sunscreen that blocks the synthesis of vitamin D.

During the pandemic the sun exposure has been even less than usual and as a result there is a higher incidence of dermatological problems related to this vitamin D deficiency.

PREGNANCY

For pregnant or breastfeeding women it is essential to observe the balance of their intake of essential fatty acids. In case of a deficiency this would affect the skin, the lips and also their state of mind. Various studies prove that the foetus can accumulate up to 65 milligrams of Omega 3 per day during the last pregnancy trimester and during the breastfeeding period.

In spring there are more hours of sunlight and the intensity of the ultraviolet rays increases. The atmospheric pressure varies often and affects our circulation. Biometeorology has proven the interconnection between the atmosphere and the biosphere, meaning between the weather, the seasons and our health.

This season is a time of transition, a very delicate period. Many people feel tired in the spring because of the changes in light and temperature – this phenomenon is called “meteor-sensitivity. It is extremely important to prevent skin damage with high quality organic skincare during the springtime.

Profound Nutrition

In spring it is very important to nourish the skin with bioactivators that improve cell functioning with dynamogenic action, meaning it increases the resistance of the tissue to outside aggressions. The prickly pear seed oil and the Neroli essential oil in MIDNIGHT REJUVENATION act in synergy with calming plant extracts to improve the skin’s energy.

The combination of VELVET HYDRATION and MIDNIGHT REJUVENATION is especially beneficial in the morning to hydrate the areas of the decolleté, nose, mouth and eyebrows. It is highly recommended in case of spring dermatitis thanks to the high concentration of rose and neroli.

Overnight Renovation

The high content of beneficial plant extracts in the masque INSTANT LIBERATION effectively treats impurities in the springtime. We recommend to apply it twice per week, massaging a thin layer into the skin and letting it act the entire night.

Preparing for Summer

Mix the oil serum MIDNIGHT REJUVENATION with a small amount of the cream JOUVENCE DIVINE and apply this potion on the lip and eye contour, neck and decolleté. Apply it three times per week in the evening and tap in gently.

INSTANT LIBERATION is a purifying thermo-active masque that regenerates the skin overnight. The Kaolin clay is a powerful hydrolipidic skin regulator and is able to absorb environmental pollutants. At the same time, the medicinal clay purifies the skin while preserving the epidermal flora.

Kaolin is one of the most sustainable and pure minerals on earth. It equilibrates the pH levels, and moreover possesses remineralising, antioxidising and chelating powers. Indeed, through the elimination of homotoxins and heavy metals, it detoxifies the organism.

This highly beneficial mineral allows the skin to preserve the humidity inside the hydrolipidic film without clogging the pores. It softens the skin and exfoliates gently even the most sensitive skin types, helping to eliminate dead cells. This action is highly beneficial as our skin renovation cycles slows down due to age or health changes.

Originally, the name of this precious mineral comes from the first deposit discovered in China namely the Kaoling hill. Since ancient times the kaolin has been used for therapeutic aims and today it is used in a variety of fields such as the pharmaceutical sector, the alimentary sector, the cosmetic sector and the arts.

The Sahara desert – only the strongest can survive in such a harsh climate: extreme heat, cold, wind and almost no water. The few plants that can live there are true survival artists. The cactus Opuntia ficus-indica has adapted to survive in these most extreme climatic conditions, developing very beneficial adaptogenic properties to protect and regenerate the skin.

This cactus belongs to the adaptogenic plants, which helps the body’s adrenal system responds to physical, biological and chemical stressors.

The seeds of the Opuntia ficus-indica are cold pressed to extract the oil from its interior. To obtain 1 liter of the scarce and highly effective cactus oil, it is necessary to press the seeds of 1000 kilos of its fruits. Its extraordinary balance of Omega 3, 6, 7 and 9 is able to regenerate and revive all skin types, from dry to oily.

This golden elixir also contains the vitamins E and K that soften the skin, and contains moisturizing and nourishing fatty acids that prevent the formation of wrinkles, making prickly pear oil a powerful anti-ageing treatment. True organic cosmetics would be unimaginable without it.

It also contains betalains and phenolic compounds that have a great capacity to fight inflammations, which helps irritated skins. It also illuminates skin tone and reduces dark circles.

To combat the stress our skin is exposed to every day, we have selected the most powerful adaptogenic plants such as the cactus Opuntia ficus-indica as ingredients for our high-performance skincare products; among others the SMOOTH ADDICTION total hydration balm and the MIDNIGHT REJUVENATION restructuring oil serum.

More than half of the products in the supermarket contain palm oil and maybe even your investment fund.

It is very hard to avoid palm oil today, as it is included in food, cosmetics, detergents and cleaning products. Even a conscious consumer almost can’t avoid using it, since there is only an obligation to declare palm oil on food products. In cosmetics and cleaning products palm oil is used in a modified way and therefore gets a new name such as Stearate SE or Cetearyl Alcohol. All LE PURE products are palm oil free and we support campaigns such as Zero Palmöl and are listed in their product database.

Below you can find a list of ingredients that contain or are likely to contain palm oils:

Are you investing in palm oil without knowing it?

A new report by the Friends of the Earth US (FoE) states that some of the US’ leading institutional investors, including pension funds, are potentially fuelling environmental and social harm by ploughing billions of dollars into the palm oil industry through opaque financial arrangements.

FoE and As You Sow have developed a new database where members of the public can search for the name of their fund to see what palm oil holdings, and the value of the assets, are in the portfolio.

In spring and summer many people are suffering from allergies and the skin and eyes become irritated. For our products we have selected a range of plants and ingredients that have strong calming properties, so therefore they are also indicated for allergy affected eyes and skin.

The plants in VELVET HYDRATION calm swollen or irritated eyelids. Very often pollen allergies can also lead to eczemas in the face and result in dry and peeling skin. In that case we recommend to use VELVET HYDRATION combined with the balm SMOOTH ADDICTION during the day. At night we recommend VELVET HYDRATION along with our elixir and balancing face oil.

As a company we have a responsibility to preserve our finite planet. Each action matters and has an impact on the earth and on other people. So we should choose sustainable resources and limit waste and pollution as much as we can.

As a company LE PURE wants to contribute to offer product alternatives that go along with this philosophy. A sustainable cosmetics company should follow these 3 crucial guidelines:

ETHICAL SOURCING OF INGREDIENTS

We carefully select our ingredients as well as our providers to make sure that our raw materials and plants have been ethically grown and obtained. This means that they neither destroy the living space of people or animals nor does their production or harvest contaminate in any way.

NON-POLLUTING PRODUCTION PROCESSES

Since we have decided to eliminate all synthetic or semi-synthetic ingredients, we are able to use production methods that don’t create any pollution in form of waste or residues.

EDIBLE INGREDIENTS DON´T POLLUTE THE WATERWAYS DURING USE

All our products are edible, which also means that they do not pollute the water, when we use them in combination with water. Our emulsions do not contain any transfats (Stearate, etc.), which are commonly used in both conventional as well as organic skincare. We believe that true organic products should not contain ingredients that pollute our water. Problem is that most people don’t even know this fact.

By selecting products that contain the highest quality of ingredients you not only do the best for your skin, you also do the best for the earth.

Yesterday the team LE PURE went to discover the Opuntia cacti, one of the plant we use to create our organic products. Marie and I decided to go to a beautiful area with wild growing cactus. It’s really amazing to see such an exotic landscape in the very heart of Barcelona.

Marie gave us a short private lecture on the Opuntia cacti (the Latin name of the Prickly pear cactus) and its powerful health benefits: its adaptogenic properties are key to the stabilization of our physiological processes and to the decrease of cellular sensitivity to exogenous agents, such as stress and UV radiations.

She explained why she chose the extracts of this plant to create the innovative formulas of LE PURE products: in fact, the fruit and the leaves of the cactus are rich in folic acid, B vitamins, antioxidants, flavonoids and active ingredients, which have the power to balance and regenerate the skin. In this way, you help your skin stay young and radiant. Plants are our real allies. A day in the nature is a day spent learning its wise beauty secrets.

A special thanks to our dear videographer Leda who took beautiful pictures and recorded a video about the story how we met and decided to start LE PURE. We hope we will be able to show you the video soon. Stay tuned for more news!

In many products we use the essential oil Neroli, which is obtained from the flower of the bitter orange tree. It is one of the most expensive essential oils on the market and has a very delicate perfume, which helps to calm the nervous system.

In combination with the essential oil of roses, these two luxury ingredients create the delicate scent of our LE PURE products. When you apply our products, close your eyes for a second and transport yourself to a place like the Alhambra in Spain, where you walk among orange trees and get seduced by their sweet perfume that lingers in the warm wind.
